Sunskrit Stories #1 - Merdan's Travel Journal

So I've been pretty barren lately when it comes to creative work.  Starting my degree in fashion design has taken up most of my time and mental energy and I think it's about time I do something about it and get back to making and creating.  One thing I made time for was a very special travel journal for a very special friend who is about to enbark on his first venture to India. I fell in love with making mandalas out of studs quite some time ago and by this time they have become one of my not so secret ingredients that I like throwing in almost every creative equation.  For this project I simply bought a ready made hardback notepad bound in fabric and dedicated most of my energies on the mandala itself, a good two hours of good, clean, creative fun.  I wonder how many stories and adventures this mandala will guard.  Anyway, hope you like it and I promise to take a better picture next time :D

Yours Truly

Mystic#1 Siamic Wear

The first artisan to break the ice on this blog is Erika, the mastermind behind Siamic Wear.  After finishing fashion school Erika parted ways with making clothes until the festival season of 2012 were the inspiration from the psychedelic tribe rekindled her love for making wearable art. She started off making macrame jewellery and slowly drifted to making clothes as well as jewellery from recycled leather.  In fact Erika gets most of her inspiration from the lovely smiley people of the psytrance scene as well as sacred geometry, mother nature and anything that grabs her attention.

"I want to make clothing that makes people feel good and free and pretty. I don´t like nice things, which make you stiff and break the flow.  So it´s actually most important to be comfortable and feel good, like if it´s a part of your body." - Erika

Siamic wear has an aesthetic of subtle contrasts.  Studs and strong shapes are coupled with draping fabric and loose fitting garments.  The colours are washed and natural with soft olive greens, rust brown, ash greys and black.  Erika's background in illustration shows through in her hand painted work.  Mandalas, Sacred Geometry and Tribal designs that are glowing like hot cinders with intensity and warmth.  Her latest work also includes some funkier prints, shredded fabric, designs made of studs and last but not least works of art engraved in leather accessories.

Although most of her work is for girls, Erika's custom painted hoodies and t shirts for guys are truly masterpieces.  Erika is a true creative star child.  Her clothes are full of hours of intense love and passion and meticulous craftsmanship. Truly inspiring. Truly Siamic.
